Leaving Las Vegas?

The Interior Design program at the University of Nevada Reno just got the axe.

Nevada is one of 3 states to still have “practice” regulation in place. (Louisiana, Florida, D.C. & Puerto Rico). There is only one CIDA accredited Interior Architecture* program in the state. I certainly do not have a clue as to the political/academic climate in Nevada (and I am sure there is much more to the story) but it seems to me that it would have been in the professions best interest to foster development of the Reno program so that it could have earned accreditation, not that that is a guarantee of permanent status.

I guess if a state that licenses its Interior Designers to practice does not value the Education aspect of the professional development process then either things at UNR were untenable or the policy makers really don’t understand or care.

*The Council for Interior Design Accreditation does accredit several interior architecture programs in the nation…don’t get me started.

Anyway I hate to see this happen.
